Yiddish Classes at Der Arbeter Ring
Beginnine, Intermediate and Advanced Yiddish every Monday night
Join Arbeter Ring and learn some Mameloshn – it’s about time! All classes are taught by Reb Yakob Basner and are offered subject to sufficient enrollment. Unsure which class you belong in? Not sure if Yiddish is for you? Just love a bargain? Come and try a class for free!

Our Instructor: Reb Yakob Basner
Born in Riga, Latvia, and immigrated to the USA in 1980. Survivor of the Holocaust–Ghetto and 5 concentration camps. While using mainly Yiddish, Yakob speaks many languages. He studied in the Rigouer Institute of Languages and also received a California teaching credential.
Mr. Basner lectured around the world, including Switzerland, Israel, Latvia, Germany and the United States. A sought-after teacher, he has worked at the University of Judaism, the California Institute for Jewish Culture and Languages, many Community centers and teaching facilities, as well as our own SoCal Arbeter Ring/Workers Circle.
He has received awards and recognition from numerous Jewish Federations, Community Centers and the Yiddishkayt Award from the Workers Circle. He has performed throughout California, has founded and led for 16 years the Yiddish Club at Long Beach JCC, was the co-president of “Joy of Yiddish” and, for 10 years, co-founder and president of the Yiddish Club in Seal Beach.
For 27 years, Yakob Basner has taught–and continues to teach–all levels of Yiddish at the Workers Circle.
Yiddish Conversation

Thanks to your attendance, the Conversational Yiddish group with world-recognized Yiddish teacher, scholar, translator and raconteuse Hadasa Cytrynowicz is thriving.
Originally from Lodz, and later a long-time resident of Brazil, Hadasa brings a wealth of experience and stories, songs, proverbs and sayings, poetry and interesting topics for discussion to her group. Each session is an hour and 15 minutes. Admission is by voluntary donation.
Keep your Yiddish kite flying by attending this group! All levels of Yiddish are welcome. Kumt arayn!
